Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is all about preserving the local culture, heritage and traditions of our sacred forest and the magical isle of serendipity.

If you delight in the flight of making happy and unexpected discoveries, if you have a desire & spirit to experience the authentic and traditional Sri Lanka, then Living Heritage Koslanda welcomes you!

Our Sacred Location
Living Heritage Koslanda was chosen not only for its pristine natural beauty of waterfalls & forest nor was it chosen only for its abundant & varied wildlife – the key reason it was chosen was for the sacredness of its location.

Living Heritage Koslanda belongs to the magical forest ‘Deviyange Kaele’ (God’s Forest) which extends from Sri Lanka’s holiest mountain, Adam’s Peak, to the holy and sacred site of Katagarama, just 2 hours away. It is also located on an ancient elephant migratory route where even today we see wild elephants crossing through the property drinking from the river and enjoying the peace and tranquility of the ‘God’s Forest’. A local legend suggests that when the first human alighted from the holy Adam’s Peak and followed the elephants into the valleys and plains below he followed a migratory route that crosses directly through Living Heritage Koslanda. In addition to this nature has regenerated a blessed population of 10 of the 21 trees sacred to Buddha.

Every building on Living Heritage Koslanda has been located in an auspicious space, aligned in the correct direction and constructed according to the prescribed methods based on astrology and traditional Sri Lankan architecture.
We offer you the enchantment of one of the most sacred and secret places on the magical isle of Serendipity.

Our Tree Planting Programme
For the last 10 years we have been involved in a reforestation programme for our ‘God’s Forest’. In the 1950’s the estate on which Living Heritage Koslanda is today, was abandoned to nature. At this time there was much infilling of land needed because almost all of the land had been cleared for plantation agricultural purposes during the time of the British Colonies. In the last decade we have begun to reintroduce indigenous tree varieties, particularly Sinharaja Forest varieties, to the secondary forest that has sprung up over the last 60 years (after it was abandoned to nature).

We welcome all of our guests to participate in our reforestation programme and plant a tree during their stay.
